Frequently Asked Questions for Imray Digital Charts

No COM Ports Question:

When I first run/open the software I get an error message stating 'No COM Ports Available'. What does this mean?

Answer:

When the software first starts up it checks to see if any COM ports are available for interfacing to a GPS unit. Interfacing can be either via a 9 pin RS232 port or by using an USB to Serial converter.

Some manufacturers of GPS units allow interfacing to their unit via USB set up as a Virtual COM port, the manufacturers drivers might have to be installed. The software also has provision to connect to a Garmin Unit via USB port.

If the software finds a COM port, or if it has been set up to read GPS data from a Garmin unit by the USB port, the software will then ask the user if they wish to connect to the GPS unit so it can determine which chart to display.

If it does not find a COM port, it will warn the user "No COM Ports Available". If you wish to use the software with a GPS unit, close down the application and rectify the problem before running the software again. This might simply involve connecting the USB to Com Port converter before running the software.
